We bought this lamp to replace an ugly old ceiling light in the hallway and it goes very well with the coastal theme we are going to use for the house. Just connect: white wire, black wire and ground. It comes with a round disc that mounts to the ceiling junction box, but can be ceiling mounted without the box if required. The lamp is very light, the plastic dome and the metal nozzles are not very thick. For some this may be a minus, but it doesn't bother me, I honestly find it easier to endure. The biggest downside I can think of is that if the light ever burns out the entire fixture will need to be replaced, but for the price I won't complain. It's also very light which is great for a hallway. As for the dimming function, I haven't fully tested it yet. I have a dimmer, old, works fine. However, there is another non-LED fixture in the circuit that will likely prevent the usual LED problems with an old dimmer. If you want to dim it yourself, make sure you have a compatible dimmer.
