Review on Look KEO Classic Road Pedals by Carl Higdem

Revainrating 4 out of 5

More enjoyment for newcomers!

Like many over the past year, I'm new to cycling so this is my first time trying clipless pedals. I first bought a SHIMANO unisex-adult PD-RS500 (same $60) and after my first ride indoors the yellow rubber latch on the right cleat broke (didn't loosen but enough that the cleat had to be replaced). A friend suggested WATCH keo and I had to listen for the first time but now I see the light. As you can see from the pictures, the lugs on the Keo are a bit more compact but also have less rubber overhang and a larger surface area. Assembly contact means there are fewer stress points and fewer shear points. Remember that the rubber I am talking about is hard rubber and will only shift or break, not ductile. The Keo spikes I've seen are usually cheaper when buying a replacement. The pedal itself seems a lot more fragile than the Shimano pedal which seems to be made out of thicker plastic and also has a few metal plates to prevent wear. This means that Shimano pedals are more likely to last longer, but also weigh more. But if I change spikes much more often, it's not worth it. The Keo pedal is made entirely of plastic, except for the metal spring compressor and hub. Keo pedals outperform them in terms of bearing movement or rolling resistance, whatever you want to call it. Check out my video showing how free a Keo pedal is compared to a Shimano pedal. This is useful when trying to snap, it's always in the optimal clipping position. During your cadence, they also play or maneuver noticeably more in the lugs on the Keo than on the Shimano. If you don't like that, you can tighten these spring compressors or get another bolt that has fewer degrees of freedom. New. As I said before, I'm driving indoors while trying to figure out how to buckle up and get out because I hate going out and can't get out and crash. Besides, it's cold outside! Since both systems have the same price and are equipped with spikes, it is not difficult for me to choose the LOOK Keo. In addition, they have different color options: red, white or black.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Mostly good, but...
