I resisted this for a while, I kept telling my wife it wasn't needed and that it was a gimmick. Boy was I wrong; The silicone blades at the end of the blender make a huge difference, and they wipe down the sides of the bowl as they go by. Of course, due to the way the mixer rotates, this doesn't happen in one grating, but in small successive gratings each time, but it's certainly no longer necessary to use a separate spatula to mix everything from the edges. Hooray.
