I use them mostly during the day, always in flashing mode (I add extra bright but heavier light for night riding). Cars can see me many blocks away. The tiny size and light weight mean I never take them off my bike. They are on all three of my bikes. Decent battery life considering it requires button cell batteries. Probably more important than a helmet for safety, but use both! Pro tip - I taped a 1" strip of black tape or duct tape over the light source to keep it from glaring in my eyes. It's perfect with this simple mod.
