Review on ZYLISS Original Cheese Grater White by Melissa Mack

Classic vs. Classic Cheese Grater NSF Restaurant

We recently broke our long-standing Zyliss grater. We first ordered the ZYLISS Classic Rotary Cheese Grater - NSF Restaurant, which we didn't like immediately, and then this Zyliss Classic. This upgrade has a slightly shorter screw in the grater drum than our old one so the handle falls off a bit, but compared to an NSF restaurant, that's incredible. This makes for a nice smooth grid action with just a little NSF-like judder. It also has minimal tendency to produce long, thin chunks of cheese. The problem with long strands of cheese is that if you tap the grater to remove bits of cheese, the strands will stick to the drum. There are 4 gaps on the NSF, about 3/8 inch, which gives a very uneven feel when spinning. These too, but the rows of holes/cutting are angled rather than across, so you're always in contact with the cutting edge on the cheese. The size and shape of the cutting hole is smaller and round rather than square, so it cuts more than it grinds. with grooves that fit into the corresponding teeth on the body of the grater. We mainly use the grater to grate Parmesan cheese for pasta and Caesar salad. We do 1/2 to 1 cup at a time. We also use them to grind the rind cheese for feeding our dogs. We've only had it a week or so, time will tell if it holds up like the old one. If you're more into grated cheese than grated cheese, you'll probably love the NSF restaurant.
