Sony Digital 8 - 2010 MacBook Pro

This cable is REQUIRED if you have a 2010 MacBook Pro with a 9-pin FireWire input and a Sony Digital 8 camcorder with a 4-pin ilink FireWire port. Saves so much time. It transfers the highest quality off tape and, BEST of all, splits and date-stamps various clips when using iMovie on a Mac. All you have to do is hit the import button in iMovie and it will do the rest for you. Others don't. I tried Evgato Video Capture and Transfer in VHS quality and transferred the whole tape as one big clip. And no date stamp on the clips. If you have a newer MacBook Pro, you only need to buy an adapter or two, depending on what year your MacBook is from. Adapters are on Revain. I happen to have one of my old MacBook Pros that still works. I hope this helps and saves you the time it took me to figure this all out.

Pros
  • FireWire 800 Cable The 9-pin connectors are part of a new extension of IEEE 1394 technology called FireWire 800 (or IEEE 1394b).
Cons
  • unreliable
