Review on 🎨 Rust-Oleum Cabinet Refinishing Kit, 143 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Pure White – Transform Your Cabinets by Michael Welborn

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Requires preparation and more work than stated on the box.

Unless your cabinets are already white, two coats of this color will not adequately cover the old paint. My cabinets were quite a tan and needed at least 3 coats of paint or they looked yellow. This means that the coverage calculations (100 square feet) are not accurate. After completing a set of cabinets I did more research and decided it would be better and cheaper to use a primer first. The primer only costs about $12. (Zinser 123). I ended up applying 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint. It certainly took twice as long as two coats of paint, but it ended up looking a lot better. I also recommend getting "artist's tripods" to support cabinet doors while painting. They're cheap and work way better than any homemade solution. Caution is also required with the "protective varnish". I'm not sure if comparable products have the same problem, but the blobs of protective coating tend to turn yellow when dry instead of clearing, making the blobs very noticeable on white cabinets. I have used the dark version of the same product on a different cabinet set and it works great with just two coats of paint. Only white (and possibly other lighter colors) requires extra work to make it look good. every coat of paint dries.
