Lifebuoy to keep in touch with sick spouse

I am caring for a seriously ill husband and needed a system that would allow him to easily contact me in an emergency when I am not in the room. We used two medical alert systems for several years but he forgot he was wearing a device to call for help. If he had an emergency, his phone might not be within reach. These walkie-talkies have literally changed my life and the way we communicate. It no longer bothers me to work in another part of the house and the signal goes through the walls of our house and to friends' houses across the street so I can now communicate without arranging a backup person in the house. We carry radios all the time. I bought a second set so one set is charged at a time and we change them about every 12 hours. Batteries last much longer, but we're safer to change well before the batteries die. My husband now uses the walkie talkie to call me for anything he needs and he's so used to it that he turns it on automatically and I'm sure he won't forget to call me if he has an emergency . I'm very pleased with this solution to the Guardian's Dilemma. I have a degree of freedom that's hard to find in this situation.
