Review on πŸ”§ 676061 Kwikee Motor Replacement Kit - Black by Jason Unruh

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worked like a champ!

Kwikee Series 32 steps on a 1999 Winnebago Chieftain DP. The stair collapsed at the start of our last trip. I could tell from the noises that the engine and gearbox had burned out (at one stop, I pulled up the stairs pretty hard and heard the gears engage - oops). I've tried tapping on the motor case and a few other options but to no avail. I almost ordered a whole new staircase, but. After reading reviews and other research I decided to just replace the motor. FYI - I didn't remove the "Gear to Stairs" pin - it wasn't necessary as the stairs magically came out when we got home. (How lucky!) Removing this pin is only necessary if you need to move the ladder to the side to allow access to remove the motor. If you have adequate access, simply use your foot or something else to ensure the ladder stays in place when the motor is removed. Disconnect the main power supply from the ladder and then also disconnect the small connector from the ladder motor. Remove three 10mm screws, tightening lightly (remove lightly with pliers if nothing else is available). The electric motor went out immediately. Look inside the gear and see if it's okay (mine looked fine despite my accidental attempt to destroy it - the gears look very solid). Pull the gear assembly up and remove it from the old motor and two spacers, wipe clean, then place on the new motor and re-grease. Very easy. Slide the new motor/gearbox assembly onto the gearbox housing, hold until the three 10mm screws are in place, then tighten (remember not to over tighten - tighten lightly on). Plug a small power plug into the motor. Then make sure that the entire surface (especially body parts) is not in the stair area, then plug in the power plug. Warning: the ladder will move to the set position as soon as you use this ability. I've never done this repair, but I watched something on YouTube (my favorite video was this: [.]. I would rate this work between 1 and 2 on a scale of difficulty out of 10. It was not an event. by my beer everywhere, took my time, cleaned the gearbox and shims, checked all parts for damage, re-greased and I doubt it took 20 minutes No ladder was a real pain so ordered a spare motor to keep in the van Wife, kids and dogs all complained about the huge step with no steps NEVER AGAIN!
