Don't use a hammer!

I think this is best for softwood only. In a forest like pine, poplar or linden, this is great. I was able to get cup shape pretty quickly. I've tried making straight, rounded grooves on a piece of maple, but nothing came of it. I tried using a hammer to apply more force and then I went out and bought a router and a core box drill. is it a joke Then, again with a hammer, I tried to knock a piece of oak tree out of the backyard and the tip broke off the tree! That's when I thought maybe I'm not using it for its intended purpose. The company was kind enough to replace it for me, although they stressed that it cannot be used with a mallet or mallet. Bottom Line: Great for softwood, not hardwood, and not for use with a hammer. And the company stands behind the product! Use it for its intended purpose and you will enjoy it.
