These days the advertising world has made us feel like 'percale' is a dirty word and means anything under 800 thread count cheap and prickly. You will never see a sheet described in an ad as anything other than "silky and satin". But, you know what? I HATE those flimsy thin slippery sheets. I loved my childhood percale linens. They were cool and crispy when you slipped between them and held on forever! Percale is simply a term for the weave of the threads and, according to the package insert, makes the fabric lighter and of higher quality. Also, modern bed sheets have tons of chemicals added to them to keep them from wrinkling, which is not the case with these. Looking for the vintage sheets I wanted, I came across 200 thread count percale sheets that fit the bill for $146! Then I found this one. I've had them for a week and they're exactly what I wanted: a substantial feel (thick) with that crunchy feel. Also, some reviews said they had a terrible smell - not at all. I put them on my bed right out of the box. I love her.
