Review on Sony DVPS530D DVP S530D DVD Player by Brian Samuel

Revainrating 5 out of 5

No sync issues - GREAT product!

I have to assume that the lip syncing issue mentioned in previous reviews should be fixed as I didn't notice the slightest problem. The quality of the video is amazing - I convinced my wife by comparing it directly to the Laserdisc and DVD versions of Gone With the Wind - it's already 100% sold! There's enough flexibility that you can upgrade to a component video-capable TV if you don't already have one; I use the S-Video output and THAT blows my mind. The remote has GREAT human factors engineering - I have no problem using it in a dimly lit room for normal functions (pause, slow forward/rewind, fast forward, etc.) as well as some CONVENIENT functions like "how much time is left". . to the movies?" Accessing the menus is also easy and intuitive - no tiny elf-sized buttons to hunt for. Full 5.1 and DTS/Dolby Digital outputs when you can use them, plus plenty of options for users with two to three speakers Indeed it has everything you could want in a player at this price point - I don't know who voted Toshiba as their Revain choice but THIS IS REALLY what you need!

Pros
  • Only positives
Cons
  • The packaging is ugly
