Broke after 1 year of play.

I bought this DVD player as a Christmas present for my son last year. The warranty year expired on 12/23/00. On 01/03/01 this DVD player does not even start. Took it to a Sony service center and was told it would cost $169 to repair. That's Sony quality for you.

My Sony 530 is broken. for television and video

Earlier I wrote a positive review about the Sony 530 from 9.12.1999. My player broke last week. It turned on but nothing responded. It just lay there like a bundle and then shut off after 30 seconds. During those 30 seconds I couldn't turn it off, open the disc tray, NOTHING. I took the 530 back to my local boutique where I shop and they made me pay an additional $200 to upgrade to a Sony 650 5 disc changer. Why did I choose Sony? I own a lot of their products, I'm lucky and to be honest I…

Fall of Sony from grace.

Whatever you do, DO NOT buy a DVD from Sony. They call for trouble and escalation. First there were horror stories from the owners of the S560D. I bet every one of them will fail at some point. Now Sony is releasing another piece of crap, the S530D. Has this company changed hands or what? If I spend a few hundred dollars on an item, I expect it to last over 1.5 years! Also, I got absolutely nothing from Sony's technical support and customer service. They tried to tell me that I had soiled the…

This gem is almost free!

I bought this DVD from Revain in November, watched over 20 DVDs (I'll explain why later) and played a lot of CDs. Nolip synchronization. The CD sounds even better than my other CD deck. What I like most is the headphone jack, which allows me to listen to CDs and watch DVDs only when the DVD player is on, without disturbing those around me. Now the best part. that not even the Revain staff know. This unit is eligible for 7 free DVDs and 33 free video rentals (10 from Netflix, 13 from Blockbuster

No sync issues - GREAT product!

I have to assume that the lip syncing issue mentioned in previous reviews should be fixed as I didn't notice the slightest problem. The quality of the video is amazing - I convinced my wife by comparing it directly to the Laserdisc and DVD versions of Gone With the Wind - it's already 100% sold! There's enough flexibility that you can upgrade to a component video-capable TV if you don't already have one; I use the S-Video output and THAT blows my mind. The remote has GREAT human factors…

low quality; Sony Name Defective

I have owned this player for about 3 years and know all (or at least most) of its shortcomings. There are a few important issues to be aware of when using this device: (1) Lip sync issues. The audio and video streams will unpredictably get out of sync from time to time, requiring you to stop and restart the drives to get the streams back in sync. DVDs containing scenes with "complex" MPEG encoding. (3) Poor handling of many discs with barely visible scratches. A disc we borrowed ("The Talented…
