When I bought my Acer PC for the first time last summer, it came with a mechanical hard drive. I had a 2.5 SATA III HD on my old computer so I knew I could speed it up. It had an M.2 slot for NVMe. And really all I had to do was install it, I messed around with the bios settings. It was an educational experience. Any SSD is way ahead of a mechanical drive. Surprisingly, these NVMes are slightly cheaper than 2.5-inch SSDs and, according to Crystal Disk, much faster.
