Review on Emerson SR650: 6-Speed 2-in-1 LED Ceiling Fan Remote Control | Efficient Control & Illumination by James Hess

I have 2 of these remote controls at home for two different fans. The fans are incredible. There are no panels. Pros: The remotes come with white mounting plates that look nice. Consoles and fans remember their settings, so the fan can be installed on a single-pole circuit. In an old house, this means you can replace a ceiling light where there is only one set of wires and you don't need to run additional wires. In this configuration, the switch continues to regulate the "master power" of the fan, while the remote control controls the fine adjustments (light intensity, fan speed, etc.). If you have set everything correctly with the remote control, you can switch the whole thing on and off with a normal wall switch. Cons: The controls are symmetrical, meaning it's not easy to tell which buttons control brightness and which controls fan speed in the middle of the night or in the dark. One of my two remotes has to be within 5 feet of the fan to work, which defeats the purpose of the remote. I'm not sure if this is a fault with the remote control or the wiring of the receiver in the fan. The same of the two also periodically resets itself and requires reprogramming to control the fan and lighting. Overall, this remote control is more of a nuisance than comfortable to use. us.Update 31st July 2014: The remote that had to be held so close finally died. Emerson replaced my remote and the replacement worked better. The batteries of the other remote control were dead after about 12 months of use. This remote might have been on the shelf for a while before I bought it, which isn't a big deal. Both work well but still look like the old design. Updated 11/17/2014. Stars.
