We first bought the "big" version based on 1CU FT. 40 pounds of pellets = about 1 cu. ft. folks, if you aren't Paul Bunyan I'm here to tell you the large size is LARGE, easily reaching the height of a 5 gallon bucket and up at the top. I haven't tested my theory but I think you could fit over 1 40 lb bag of pellets. The small size has the best proportions. I'm not talking about how long it will last, I mean that it looks better physically. Big, apart from being too big, didn't look quite right. All the proportions were wrong, it somehow looked ridiculous, like a cartoon or a bucket. This one is perfect. It's about the size of a bucket of water, you know one of those galvanized buckets used to water cattle or transport grain. In fact, that's exactly what it is. The only real difference is that it's much more attractive and has a raised lip. This is hard work. I don't think I'll have any problems with the service I'm planning. But the rivets holding both handles leave a lot to be desired, they seem to be breaking out. However, I don't see any particular problems for the stove and the use of pellets. And even if they pull out over time, it's easy to fix with copper rivets. Someone mentioned that they thought this thing was copper and was disappointed that it was actually just a fancy paint job. Two things. First, nowhere was it additionally stated that it was pure copper. It is written that it has a copper coating. If it were copper it would cost around $300 for copper alone and who knows how much more for production. Second, they mentioned that it was brown in color. Well, Braun has gotten a little off topic. It is very similar to the one shown in the picture. And shiny enamel color. From about 5 feet away it looks like patina copper. You have to be within a few feet to know it's not actually copper. But that doesn't detract from the optics. It looks like a fancy hammered metal coal mine. It's a little pricey, but the material is as good as it gets and it's by far the most attractive hod that fits our needs. Of course there are more comfortable solid brass hods. But they didn't hold the amount of pellets we expected. By the way, I think if it's filled to the brim, you'll fit a full bag of granules. We have a 56lb hopper so it needs to hold up to 30lbs at a time anyway. She looks very nice next to our mahogany Mount Vernon AE. If you can handle the price, you will surely love Hod. ***UPDATE*** After a few months of use I can tell you it's holding up great. But my assumption that it could hold a full bag of 40# pellets was wrong. In fact, it only holds a lil per 1/2 bag of pellets. Maybe 25# if they are about 1 inch below the lowest part of the rim. However, this works well as a pocket covers the cooker and the hood holds what's left. At night before bed I toss the ladle in the oven and repeat the cycle again in the morning. ***UPDATE #2*** My concerns about the rivets holding the handle to the back of the bucket are confirmed. . It's not "out of service" yet, but the metal is beginning to crack around the rivets and with continued use, the handle snaps off quickly. The main carrying handle, which is also attached with rivets, is gradually showing signs of fatigue, and I fear that continued use will soon break it as well. First and foremost, this bucket seems to serve the decorative effect. But I solved the problem by simply not using the handles anymore. I tip the bucket forward enough to reach under the bottom of the bucket, then hold the front of the bucket where the pellets fall out and tip them into the bin. This works very well and eliminates the extra stress on the rivets. The bucket still looks great and otherwise appears to be quite functional. I wouldn't use handles if you want it to be a working pellet bucket.
