Review on Beaded Opulence: Mastering Elegant Jewelry Projects with Right Angle Weave by Marcia Decoster by Dawn Fischer

Gorgeous designs!

I pre-ordered this book in March of this year and was looking forward to its release. I've been fortunate enough to take lessons from Marcia before and also complete some of her sets. Her designs are always beautiful and elegant, and the designs in this book are no exception. The book is divided into six chapters: Chapter 1 covers the basics of beadwork; Chapter 2 provides a good overview of Rectangular Beading (RAW) that will be useful for both experienced bead embroiderers and beginners; Chapter 3 is dedicated to projects related to flat beads reminiscent of fabric; Chapter 4 deals with projects based on ropes; Chapter 5 covers bead frames; Chapter 6 is about decorations; Chapter 7 is about curved designs; and Chapter 8 is about multi-stage projects. The app also includes a nice gallery of RAW projects from other bead artists like Nan S. Meinhardt, Huib Peterson etc. which are very pleasing to the eye. A total of 24 projects to choose from; Some of them (like Terracita and Etruscan Treasure) are old Marcia designs, but there are many new designs to choose from. There is also a good selection of designs for both beginners (like earrings and bracelets/anklet) and more advanced. It's easy to reproduce the exact look of every detail. Some consumables (like rubber tubing of various widths for rebar projects, etc.) looked like they were hard to come by. but a quick google search revealed, that they should be easy to track down and Revain actually has quite a few of them. This is a definite plus as it's always uncomfortable to realize that a beading project requires hard-to-find materials. I also noticed that the instructions in this book are very detailed and clear. I've had some trouble following Marcia's instructions in the past, but here the instructions are very clear and the charts are excellent. The instructions definitely benefited from the good editing by the book's editors. I don't have the first book in this new Lark series so I was pleasantly surprised to see that the book is bound as there are so many bound books out there. It's easier to work while you're beading. I can't wait to get started on some of these projects! The instructions definitely benefited from the good editing by the book's editors.
