Works well if you are careful

I'm not a professional but a normal hobby carpenter and DIY enthusiast so I have nothing to compare but I'm very happy with this product. As I worked on my various projects, I realized there was a compromise. You can make some pretty good projects with some very basic tools, and they will turn out well if you take your time and be extra careful throughout the process. With more specialized tools, you can speed up the process as they remove some of the risk of error. This tool helps a lot with measuring and placing those holes so you don't have to spend ages trying to make sure everything lines up evenly. This works really well for someone like me, but it's clearly not a high-end professional tool. I found four things that make it much easier and more accurate to use. I'll explain them below, but before I do, please know that they're not overly important to me. I really like this guide and am really looking forward to using it for some future projects. In fact, I'd really like it for a bookcase I built with adjustable shelves, but if it wasn't for this project I probably wouldn't have ordered it in the first place. Anyway, I digress, here's my list of things to look out for when using it. As you can probably imagine, since the guide is mostly plastic, you have to be a little careful to make sure the guide doesn't get bent. This isn't a big problem for holes close to the edge, but if you want to mark deeper holes, you have to make sure that the guide is square and does not move. A small change can really mess you up. If you can access the hole from the back of your project, it may be easier and better than trying to access it from the front.2. The distance from the hole is from the flat part of the base (I tried to highlight this in the first picture) and not from the little ridge that sticks out above the built in ruler. A ruler isn't great at first, but if you're trying to line it up with a small marker, you'll need to extend the marker from the edge or it could get lost over the edge. I decided to cut out this part to see the dimensions of the ruler, but I haven't done it yet. Let's see if I get mad enough to do it in the future.3. The screws that hold the various rails in place don't have enough room to grip the threads that hold them. It's not too bad for the guides that attach to the metal ruler, but the one that holds the plastic ruler in place is pretty flat. In the second picture you can see a comparison where one is screwed in and the other is held where the thread starts. The grooves only hold a few millimeters of thread so they're fairly easy to knock out and lose. I recommend sharpening the non-threaded part a bit so it doesn't get as long. This allows you to screw the part in a little more before the end touches the ruler to hold the clamp.4. There weren't any instructions in the box so I could be misusing anything, but I think I got it good enough. At least it will work for me. Here is my list of things to consider when using this product. For the price I think it's a really good buy. Planning on making your own cabinets will save you a great deal of time, headaches, and possibly money instead of buying things you messed up the first time. While there is room for improvement with this product, I still recommend it to people like me.
