Damn comfortable though.

First of all, let me say that I will be testing these shoes for a longer period of time. First impressions were that they were the most comfortable Altra's I've ever owned - walking on cloud. I've also received many compliments on her looks. After about an hour of wearing it for the first time, the "heel problem” that many complained about became apparent. However, I would never return a pair of leather shoes because the heel cuts in. I know this is part of the warm-up process for any decent leather shoe, and Moleskin is your friend in this. The leather on this shoe is high quality and quite sturdy (good!). I took them off after an hour of walking (straight) and let the shoes rest (along with my feet lol). When I put them back on I adjusted the laces so the heel didn't slip and they held great, didn't slip. I took them off for an hour then did the same thing again and adjusted the laces. Today I ran 6 miles in one run without rubbing and my feet feel great. Others mentioned that the midsole was tight. I agree, it was too tight for me at first. I don't have wide feet but it was narrow for me. It went away on its own after a pair of socks. In fact, I later had to tighten the laces in the middle of the sole. It doesn't seem to be a problem if you just break in the shoes. Bottom Line: While heel slippage that's been talked about so much is real, it can be treated like any leather shoe by doing "bursts" of activities in the shoe, resting them, adjusting the laces, rinsing, repeating. You can even try applying mink oil and warming up the shoes with a hair dryer and then putting them on for the first time. Use a mole to start with if you must. Nothing beats a pair of skinny leather boots - I have high hopes for them. I want to give 5 stars, will get back to you after my business trip next week with an update which I will exclusively carry in them. Update: After wearing them exclusively on 2 week trips I'm increasing my rating from 4 to 5 stars. They are without a doubt the most comfortable shoes I own. Yes, it was a bit of a pain to walk in, but it was worth it!
