As it should be. Some say the sizes run small, some say true to size and some even say too big. How can conclusions be drawn from such differing opinions? I wear an 11 1/2 but realized they are too small and ordered 12M. Guess what? They turn out half a size bigger. I should have ordered my true size or even 11M. Some people have swollen feet and ankles due to health reasons and should not check shoes as each shoe feels too tight or too small for their feet. I would say they are pretty standard sized. I gave them 3 stars but not because they are a bit big. It's my own fault that I didn't fit. But the insoles don't have the smooth leather surface of the heels and outer part of the boot. I'm guessing it's leather, but more of a grainy leather that isn't as good as the leather slippers I've had in the past.
