Review on Lipper International 7218 Kitchen Chopping by Veronica Holmes

Rough, cracked and sticky

As I suspect for many people, the pandemic has led to - much more - home cooking, and after two months (yes, I'm a little slow on absorbing ), I thought I could use a cutting board. I bought one of the OXO plastic boards and it's fine, but I was concerned about the effect it would have on my knives. Did a little research and found recommendations for teak planks. I've looked around and some of them are very expensive but this Lipper model was in my price range for a small board and had good reviews. It arrived recently and the first thing I noticed was that the board was not rectangular meaning the top left edge (see photo) was sticking out. I'm not even sure how that's possible, but the lack of quality control was the first sign. Then I turned the board over and saw the horrible sticker everyone is talking about. Since the Lipper logo is burned into the bottom of the board (why?) this renders the bottom of the board unusable for real use and I just wanted to leave the sticker alone but no such luck. It was already sticky, slippery and peeling off so I removed it and voila! huge sticky gooey mess. I've tried mineral oil, alcohol, industrial solvents and even medical grade adhesive remover and they basically just rubbed off the adhesive. I've gotten the underside "less sticky" but never clean, and for a board that sits squarely on a table (no legs, no grooves) this means the underside transfers its viciousness to anything it touches. ) I then washed the board and it was really rough. I know others have sanded theirs down (didn't know it was a DIY kit!) and figured it might be necessary. Chop some veggies and was surprisingly less confident than OXO on this surface. Done, washed, dried and placed on the counter to see what I would do next, only to come back the next day to find the board had already split. The item has returned. Very disappointing. YMMV, but I would stay away from the small Lipper teak cutting board.
