Extra wide and thick
I didn't buy them for the usual reasons. I bought these to use in my classes. I cut them in half and tape half a straw to each student's tabletop to use as a pen holder. (This is one way to keep pencils handy.) I needed very wide straws so I could easily slip a pencil through them. I needed thick, strong straws to survive second grade. These straws were perfect! The fact that they were a nice blue color that matched my class' nautical theme was a bonus.
