I actually bought these for growing orchids that need holes for air and drainage. Comparable items sold as orchid pots with holes cost 5 to 10 times as much. I will no doubt use many of these for food storage as well – pantry, fridge and freezer. They are clear enough to see the contents and the lids fit snugly. After receiving them, I also bought 32 oz. Size that happens to use the same lids. Together they should eliminate much of the container/lid hash that has built up over the years.
