After using it with one trainer for a while I bought a second one. All settings must be on the same level. You may not want the discharge to be as high as the sound. Not me. As far as I remember, the level changes from off / on. I can't remember any other disadvantage. All in all it was the first aid to get my dog off the leash again. I have read the guide many times and still had problems as did the trainer. Before using a training collar, unless medically recommended, you must study it thoroughly, including how to use the discharger itself.
