Review on ๐Ÿผ Panda N600 Dual Band 300Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter - Windows/Mac/Linux Compatible by Vaibhav Karger

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Plug and play Linux Mint 17.3 but not without problems

I've used several USB Wi-Fi adapters that advertise Linux compatibility and this is the FIRST device I've bought and it is (partly) works. Runs natively on the latest Linux kernels without compiling drivers (plug and play);* Connected at both 2.4 and 5 GHz (hooray!). Bad:* Very limited range, poor signal on computer downstairs 20ft from router (Asus N66U) upstairs;* 5GHz is very picky about which channel it prefers. I had to experiment with a few before finally hooking it up. Once connected, the signal was so weak it was virtually unusable. As mentioned above, I've tried several different USB Wi-Fi adapters that advertise Linux compatibility and this is the first one that actually works (see my other reviews for those NOT to buy). Unfortunately, this little adapter just didn't have the antenna/band I needed and the 5GHz compatibility was very patchy and sometimes just refused to connect. If you're in close proximity to your router and don't have LOS issues, this could be a good and inexpensive solution for a Wi-Fi adapter that actually works with Linux. If you want a more reliable solution, you'll likely be disappointed. I've finally given up 5GHz Wi-Fi on Linux and am about to run Ethernet through my loft and ducts. I've never had problems like this with Windows, but the whole point of moving to Linux for us was to get away from MS so we could adapt and manage.

Pros
  • Brilliantly made
Cons
