I have tested many knife bars lately and to my surprise this is by far the best yet. The internal magnet is EXTREMELY strong and thankfully a solid band that runs the full length of the body, which is unusual for inexpensive male connectors. (Other models I've tried in the sub-$50 range contained thin, vertically oriented, individual magnets spaced a small distance apart; this is a cost-saving measure that unfortunately renders it ineffective for anything but very to hold thin and light knives.) . This one holds my very large and heavy chef's and cook's knives like they mean nothing. After using it for a long time I am absolutely convinced of the holding power for all my knives, which is very important for a knife bar+. I was initially skeptical of the silicone coating and fully expected it to damage or strike a knife blade instantly, but so far it has withstood months of abuse with no sign of damage. It's thin enough not to affect the magnet's holding power, but thick enough to protect the knives from damage and provide good isolation from both noise and shock when they're loosening and moving. (I'm concerned about metal-on-metal rattling, and this almost completely eliminates it. Knives work quietly, only giving off a dull and very pleasant "knock"). It also seems thick enough that if I ever accidentally poked a knife into it, I don't think the resulting damage would affect its functionality. This is a fantastic feature that I can't do without on cutter bars now. You may pull down on the knife to remove it. This makes it much easier to first pull the handle straight up and push the knife out by prying it against the top edge of the knife bar (or wall) and then twisting it horizontally slightly to remove it completely. Take this into account when installing; Especially if it's particularly high off the ground, you may want a small horizontal piece of wood/buffer above the knife bar (close to where your knife points rest) to prevent the sharp points from hitting the wall etc , if you remove them . quickly. This is not due to the product at all, but to an individual intolerance + The supplied fastening material is sufficient for the application. The nice thing is that I don't have to resort to my own dowels and drywall screws this time. I pulled it very hard in all directions after it was fully installed and it didn't budge an inch. As with anything else, be careful not to over-tighten the anchors (many people do). The back of the handlebar attaches magnetically to a heavy-duty backplate, which you in turn mount directly to the wall. It's very, very nice - if I need to remove the cutter bar for any reason (for cleaning etc) I can just remove and pull out the knives and then put them back in to reinstall. The backplate fits snugly into the precision cut hard raised edges of the rear handlebar housing so I don't have to worry about it rocking up/down/left/right under force; Unless you knew exactly how it was installed, you would never guess that it's effectively held to the wall by the magnet backing. It's much more secure than the channeled screw rods I've used in the past, and it requires a fair amount of force to remove. I would have preferred to have 4 screw holes on the back panel instead of 2 just to follow the general rule for heavy objects mounted on drywall but thanks to the decent wall plugs (which were included) and the very secure rod- Backplane connection, honestly I'm not worried about it at all.+ Looks great; the design is minimalistic and functional, but by no means ugly. Thanks to the coating, the edges are slightly rounded and it closes (also thanks to the coating) flush with the wall without a visible gap. I'd say it has an understated modern vibe -- more like a futuristic kitchen than a hipster shack. I've abused mine quite a bit, but you never tell. I'm sure I've scratched it many times getting my knives out, but no matter what tiny cut marks there are on the coating, they just don't show; really still looks like new. Surprisingly, I can't think of a single negative review for this purchase. I will definitely get a few more as gifts. I'm actually considering taking my good handles out of their original block and putting them on these poles to save space; I wouldn't even consider doing this with other knife strips I've had. Like all my other reviews, I will ALWAYS update them to reflect future issues or changes in my observations or opinions on the subject for the better. or worse.
