Alder buds are very cute I read the other reviews and knew they were tiny so the size didn't surprise me. I have a naturally planted nano tank that cycles and I plan on adding shrimp and snails once the cycle is complete so I wanted a more natural decor and have read that shrimp love these things. I also have water with a very high pH which I was hoping would drop. Well they look great and release a little tannin but not enough to obstruct the view. I put one per gallon and it didn't change my pH, but if I add more they might change. I just finished my run and ordered shrimp and snails from Aquatic Arts because I was so happy with the cones. I have a nice biofilm on the cones so I think the shrimp will love them when they get here.
