Unlike the pictures, I arrange my knives the other way around. My knives have a small lip between the blade and the handle and it fits the ledge nicely. Some people say the magnetic stripe isn't very strong, but it's strong enough. The product contains a warning stating: KEEP fingers away from the lid and magnet. I believe other reviews said the magnet isn't very strong, they couldn't remove the back panel. This is a backplate that screws to the wall, but if you are placing it on top of a metal object (like a fridge) you do NOT need a backplate.
