Review on πŸ“± Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro - Rugged, Unlocked (Verizon and AT&T), Dual Sim, 64GB Storage - SM-G715UZKDXAA, Black by German Diaz

Not "actually " unlocked.

First off, this phone feels great in the hand, which makes the rest of my experience hard to fathom. My whole family has a T-Mobile plan. T-Mobile is also one of the cheapest providers in the US when it comes to bring your own device (BYOD) phones, and every "unlocked" phone I've had has worked on their network except this one. Data works fine over the 4G network, but when you make calls, things suck. As soon as you dial a number or the phone rings for an incoming call, it switches to 3G and you get all the quality of 20-year-old technology. T-Mobile was very helpful and immediately referred me to higher level tech support, but soon attributed the issue to this model being incompatible with their VoLTE system as Samsung did not make the phone compatible with the T-Mobile network Has . The network update exists from T-Mobile because they don't write this code, Samsung does. Samsung tech support is embarrassing testament to the giant of the mobile phone world. Their business tech agent (this phone is part of their business line of devices) had little to no information about this issue on their system. In fact, the IMEI number was blocked for Verizon, while the phone's own model number, software and box indicated that it was the unlocked version. All the poor thing could do was recommend that I go back to T-Mobile and ask them to make it work. T-Mobile also has a page where you can check if your device is BYOD Compliant, and entering the IMEI on that page will immediately return a message stating that Xcover Pro is NOT compatible. All in all, this experience left me with a bad Samsung taste in my mouth. I sold my old phone a day before the new one arrived but due to the incompatibility I was left without a phone for 3 days which is horrible these days when you are running a business and need to make and receive calls, are moving. customers and process e-mails on the go. The phone seemed great but the experience was terrible. The moral of the story is that Samsung is presenting this phone as an unlocked phone both here on Revain and on its own website, which isn't the case - at least in the traditional sense. the meaning of this word. It can be unlocked with Verizon but is not compatible with many other providers. The buyer does not have to buy a phone to test it or check for compatibility (an IMEI number is required in most cases). This information should be presented clearly by Samsung and it is their fault that this is not the case. Shame on you! Edit to add: A lot of the other reviews here mention issues with Wi-Fi calling, but I'm wondering if some of the authors are confusing this with VoLTE, which is similar to Wi-Fi calling but over the ISP's data network. Personally, I had no problems making calls over WiFi. It connected perfectly to my home network, and when connected it used that connection for incoming and outgoing calls (LTE signal bars disappear when connected to Wi-Fi). It's part of the VoLTE equation, which is an issue with this phone on some carriers. It just isn't able to use many data networks for voice calls, which almost every other modern phone can.
