Maybe not as good as wool, but they work well.
My wife doesn't like the feel of wool dryer balls and we've used soft plastic/silicone for years and they work great. We think 4-6 balls is best for our large front loading HE dryer. Soft balls like these make less noise (in fact, you hardly hear any noise). In our experience, they make a difference in clothes that wrinkle less. Not sure if they save money but the softer feel of the clothes with them makes the price worth it.
