Review on πŸ”‹ Schumacher 100 Amp Battery Load Tester and Voltmeter by Joshua Pilla

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This is the first battery tester I have ever bought.

This is the first battery load tester that I bought and read all the other reviews before buying. As other reviewers have pointed out, the vents are there because the case heats up and smoke comes out when you turn on the load for a full 10 seconds. Do not leave the switch on for more than 10 seconds as the heat could possibly melt the plastic power button or other plastic components could start to melt due to the heat. The device is very well designed as it has a spring return toggle switch so you don't accidentally leave it on until catastrophic failure. You can see a thick resistance wire (load) moving in a zigzag pattern. pull in when looking in through the vents. This is due to the fact that it takes a length of material to get the required resistance. The ventilation openings are designed to release the smoke produced during the initial combustion of the device. This applies to almost everything where very hot components are used for the first time. The vents also provide a way to dissipate the heat concentrated in the stress tester through convection. When you use it for the first time, you will understand. This is a fairly simple construction, purely mechanical, which is also reflected in the reasonable price. I will be using this device to test a 12v car battery as I recently had a dead battery in one of my vehicles and wish I had one of these battery testers before.
