My wife couldn't stop laughing when I told her I bought a hump mount to mount the radio on the center ledge in my pickup truck. But it's the only way I can fit my Kenwood TM-D710a's radio housing into my pickup truck, rather than just tucking it under the passenger seat to allow it to slide and possibly overheat. I couldn't install the radio housing under the seat because the microphone cable is connected to the radio housing and not to the control box. I also want to be able to easily remove the radio from the truck to bring it back to my cab and this provides an easy solution. The hump mount is a really simple solution to a common problem, and the price was right.
