Review on Fel Pro MIK98015T Intake Manifold Gasket by Larry Daniels

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great kit - also GM part number 24504709.

Bought this for my 2007 Chevrolet Impala LT with a 3.9 liter AFM (Active Fuel Management) engine. The car had an oil leak that I've been tracking for two years since I've owned it and it appears to be coming from the lower intake manifold gasket or valley gasket on the driver's side of the engine. A little oil paint and black light confirmed my suspicions. The car was leaking when I bought it in 2019 with 80,000 miles on it and I kept adding oil until I found the problem at 120,000 miles. Revain did not list this kit as suitable for my car but after reading the comments of others using it on the same engine I decided to give it a try. The kit fitted well and significantly better than the original Delco AC kit that was in the engine. There were a few parts in the kit that I never found a place for, but I was able to replace every gasket I took out, with the exception of the heater hose o-ring (you'll need that). After putting everything back together I suspected it was just the heater hose leaking. I was able to find this part at my local GM dealership with part number 24504709 for less than $2. I couldn't get the rubber bushings for the valve cover bolts out of the cover to replace them and the old ones were fine so I didn't use them. There was a coolant transfer seal which was not good for my job. I couldn't find a use for the 12 small o-rings that came with the kit, they could have been for the screw heads but the old screws didn't have them so I didn't use them. There are also three other gaskets, one for the air hose next to the air box. I couldn't find any use for the other two. I've found that the RTV in the kit is more than adequate if you only use it in GM recommended locations (on the ends of the trough gaskets where the heads meet the intake, and on the valve covers where the top, bottom and hit valve cover). I'll post how the set holds up later. It's not a job for the faint of heart, it was the most intrusive job I've ever done and it was intimidating. I'd suggest labeling every electrical connector, bolt, and hose as you go. I numbered mine so I can do the work in reverse order. Get ready to disconnect or remove almost anything around the top of the engine.
