I used this torque wrench to upgrade my expensive new BH bike stem. First, unlock (lower) the silver knob and turn it to line up directly below the desired torque setting number; Then push up to lock. Continue turning to "1" for even torques. Make sure the knob is not turning and move the lever clockwise to make the adjustment tighter. Turn the knob in one smooth motion and wait for a click and a slip of the pulse. Use another wrench to loosen the Allen screws. Your best bet is to bring the key back just above the 0 setting and leave it unlocked. This extends the life of the spring compressor in the key. The settings appear to be well reproducible, but the accuracy has not been verified. I gave 4 stars because the scale is difficult to read. exactly without a magnifying glass.
