This bike rack is easy to set up and install, but once I mounted my bike on it it didn't feel solid or secure. My main concern is that the straps, which hold most of the bike's weight, are supported by small metal brackets with tiny springs inside. They work as a quick open-close system to release the straps for easy and quick installation, which makes sense. However, there is no extra tensioner or buckle to secure the straps in case the springs fail, which can happen on heavy bikes. In this case, the straps would simply slip off and the bike rack would fall off the car. I think this is a serious security and design flaw. As a result, I bought some plastic puffs to add to the straps (photo attached). It was very easy to attach right over the metal clips and I definitely felt a lot better having this in addition to the metal clips. I don't know why the manufacturer didn't provide something like this, to me that's just common sense. I love the rack design and it actually looks better than most single bike racks I've seen, but I still think the manufacturer should fix/improve this and develop safer and more reliable strap mounts. My bike weighs 40 pounds and I'm hesitant to carry it on this bike rack. The highway is definitely closed. It's funny how the handlebars have all that heavy duty heavy duty rubber (don't know why) like you're carrying the bike in your hands for hours, but on the other hand the security/durability of flimsy belt clips is very questionable. Another reason why I decided to buy this luggage rack was the presence of rubber protectors on the strap hooks that were supposed to protect the car's paintwork. I have to say that they are pretty much useless with my car. They are very thick and I couldn't fit the rubber band hooks into the thin hole in the top of the car so I had to attach them to the bottom instead. out of the car. I had to seal the top hooks with tape to protect the car's paintwork. Again, this is my own modification that will only serve the purpose for short stays and short trips. Since there is no paint under the car floor for protection, rubber treads turned out to be completely useless. Also, all the rubber is on the outside of the hooks, not on the inside where abrasion and paint damage is most likely to occur. There are two rubber dots in the hooks, which are supposed to take on the "protective" task. I wouldn't trust the damage protection. I generally don't use the rack on a daily basis so I put up with some of these issues but if I used it on a daily basis I wouldn't like it. I just don't think customers should buy a product and then look for ways to make it better and/or safer. It should meet these criteria and expectations from the start.
