instructions please!

Okay, there are instructions. In many languages, which is great, but the English version is so broken you can't understand what it's trying to tell you. None of the buttons clearly indicate what they do, so it's a guessing game. The light doesn't dim either, as I said. Also the cable is about 6 inches! How should I connect this? Lame, I need an extension cord to reach an outlet 2 feet away :/
