I have a Ford Excursion that drove 88,000 miles before I touched the brakes. They were far from perfect, but not as bad as some Ford Super Duty trucks. Mine were typical, throbbing badly in certain conditions, disappearing easily under hard braking and often giving me a good wobble even in normal conditions. But they worked and drove around town for more than 7 years towing a 7500# boat, sometimes with the trailer brakes disabled. bullet and took a chance that they really are that good and worth the money. It's not, unless you think of firm, smooth braking that not only won't fade, but increases the smoothness of hard braking in the harsh conditions where you'd expect cushioning! I've replaced my brakes with Power Slot rotors (standard, not Siro d) and Hawk LTS pads after years of recommending them for applications like mine, heavy duty haulers used in all sorts of conditions from grocers to truckers in all sorts of conditions be used. I never expected the results I got. Even under hard braking, I often let go of the brake pedal as the brakes themselves add traction and become buttery smooth. Since the pads fill the need for a balance between smooth and quiet passenger car pads (not good for heavy braking) and squeaky loud commercial pads (for stopping heavy loads and often without the effect of heat, but usually very noisy), I hear in very often slight squeaking that is normal and does not last long. I traced the bedding process to the T, which may require some planning as you don't want to do this in traffic. They will smell burning brakes, see smoke, and as in my case, the car will crash behind me and come to a stop far from the intersection as I complete the final step of "braking" before cooling them down. I didn't know what was going on until I stopped and saw and smelled a massive plume of brake smoke surrounding me out of the darkness! + The truck stopped as easily and smoothly as clockwork, at any speed and with any load, including the 7500# trailer with the trailer brakes released! burn them). Every story I've heard of problems with Hawk LTS pads are instances where they didn't go through the lapping process at all, only partly because they were trying to do everything at once and on roads the traffic wouldn't allow , or have waited and did. it's later, after the brakes are applied (which actually applied them incorrectly)! This process is necessary for a specific reason: the material needs to reach such high temperatures not only to bond to the brake disc, but also to prepare the pad for proper function. Even standard car brakes need lapping to get the best performance out of them over a lifetime, it's just an easier process. Brakes are not to be skimped on and they are worth it for the purpose they are designed for!
