This is an awful piece of equipment, I strongly recommend EVERYONE NOT to buy this product. The heating controller is very difficult to move and thus adjust the temperature setting. It's also on top of the heater itself, which is IN THE TANK. I placed this heater on the back of my 36 gallon tank next to the outlet. I had the temp set at 79 degrees and noticed fluctuations on my temp gauge on the opposite side of the tank, which jumped up to 81 and then dropped to 77. On Mother's Day I woke up to my entire tank practically boiling. my own pyrometer (infrared thermometer) measured a subsurface temperature of 99 degrees. I'm sure the water temp was over 100. EVERYTHING I HAD IN THE TANK WAS DEAD. This thing cooked my fish to death, it was awful waking up on what was going to be a very special day for me. And just one note. The device was connected to a surge protector made specifically for aquariums. This stoker killed a fish that is endangered in the wild due to pollution in its homeland. passed. It killed my beautiful panda cats. passed. He killed all the fish that I cared so much about and worked so hard to colonize and populate in my tank. Devastated doesn't begin to describe how I feel about this. I intend to raise this issue with the manufacturer, but I don't want this to happen to anyone else. AVOID!
