Better than alternatives

Those little "keys" are fine. You don't have much of a choice if you like the dog door, which we mostly do. We're trying to keep the cat at home, but somehow she got out the door twice. Both times he panicked in the backyard that he couldn't come back. So we're still optimizing. As for those "keys," the battery isn't removable (at least we weren't that lucky). So when the battery dies, you need to buy a spare key to screw the bottom with a new battery. So far the problem has been the loss of the ground/battery part! First I opened the door, after a couple of weeks I noticed that one dog was missing a key. After a long walk, of course. We've built in an interchangeable bottom (it's like a 45* turn from open to closed, it's ridiculously small for such a necessary part) and we've added a dab of superglue to secure it. This worked for several months until I discovered it was missing a bottom. part again. I was going to screw in a new floor and there was a crack on the side. Oops. A whole new key instead of superglue. As a side note, I just found the bottom today so that's good, I still have a spare. So why do I keep buying them? Because it's better than not having a door and having to let dogs in and out because a cat loves a dog door. We live on a busy road and we want the cat to stay alive so we try to keep her captive indoors. Application Tip: If your dog's collar is small enough, thread it through the hole in the top, use thread and sew several times. Centimeters away from metal traces. These tags sometimes interfere with the signal. If your dog's collar is too wide, take a strong button thread and sew it in the same place. You just need to check it from time to time to make sure the thread hasn't come loose.
