Review on Enhanced Kool Stop D. Ace Brake Pads for Bicycles by Gordo Prince

I would like to start this review by saying that I drive in an urban environment where I need to use my heaters a lot. I use these pads on my single speed which is my all purpose bike in the big city. These pads are good at everything, but good at nothing. While 95% of my rides are in dry weather, these pads perform best at 5% in wet conditions. These pads are probably the best rain stopper of any non-rain pad I've ever used, which is essential in a city where cell phone use while driving is rampant. Dry braking is fine. I'd say the stock Dura Ace/Ultegra pads perform better in the dry than these pads, but for my application they're great (I don't bomb big descents on this bike). My main gripe with these pads is the longevity. I rode about 350 miles on these pads and they blew through. They were actually taken about 50 miles ago, but I've tried to squeeze as much life out of them as possible. These pads replaced a pair of Dura Ace/Ultegra pads that have ridden 1000+ miles in the same conditions. The trouble factor when changing the pads is not the replacement costs, but the inconvenience of the replacement. I'm going to replace them with a pair of black Kool Stops. I know I lose performance in the rain, but I ride in the rain so little that I feel like I'm willing to take a risk to see if I can get a little more durability.
