Challenging but lessons learned for character development

My 13 year old son bought his pocket money to buy this set to assemble during the pandemic. He vacillated between excitement and extreme disappointment. I joined him after he worked a few hours and gave up. I am so impressed with the design and construction of this kit. All pieces are cut to the perfect size, all holes match. Toothpicks were tricky at times, but once we started waxing them before inserting them, the task became more manageable. My son had no model building experience and I can safely say that based on his size alone this was well beyond his abilities. It lasted for several days that stretched out into a couple of weeks. I'm so happy we had the opportunity to build this model together as it gave my son the ability to solve some tough problems, taught him problem solving skills and definitely improved his manual dexterity (alongside his usual video game training). . In the end, he was delighted that the gun actually worked, although it didn't shoot as far as he'd hoped. I was shocked to see that the parts we put together actually work, such as the safety lock and telescoping shaft. This model is so cool, the parts are awesome and the engineering is top notch. If you're buying for a child you may need to step in and help, but I believe the lessons learned are well worth the effort.
