Great Deal BD Player

Updated 11/26/2012: This review was written over 2 years ago. Technology develops very quickly. So this player is already ancient. It was good for its time. I've switched to using my PS3 as a media center (it plays DVD/BD, streams Netflix, VUDU, Revain, Hulu, Crunchyroll and DLNA content from my NAS).====== =====I am a hardcore geek and have also worked in the video streaming industry for the last 4 years. You might be surprised that this is the first BD player I've ever owned. I have tested many BDs, DVDs, streaming boxes, so I know all their strengths and weaknesses. menu/UI, etc.). Knowing the performance of this generation and testing future ones, I was waiting for something worth spending money on. I almost bought an LG BD-390 but it was too expensive. So I've been waiting for the next generation, namely the LG BD-5XX series. Since I have Ethernet connected to my entertainment console, I chose the BD-550. For video streaming, I never want wireless (confirmed by folks commenting on quality, stuttering, lag, and rebuffering). If it was absolutely necessary for me to use WiFi, I would use 802.11N (not G) and one that supports the 5GHz band. But that's another topic. 550 does everything I need and want. Fast processor, loading time under 10 seconds, loading BD in about the same time (except for some with BD-Live and more complex content). BTW, to use BD-Live you need to plug in a USB drive (I'm using a 4GB USB drive, one of those tiny ones. Make sure it's formatted as FAT or FAT32). Netflix - good UI, fast (mine is 25MB down/10MB up). So no problem with HD streaming. Netflix requires 3.6MB for HD. The beauty of Netflix is that it dynamically adjusts the quality so you can actually watch the movie. This means you won't always get HD if your internet connection is unreliable, e.g. B. if you're using wireless (see why I'm sticking with wired?). I also like the 550s feature, which allows me to browse the Netflix movie menu and add movies straight to the player (no need to go to the computer to add movies to the Instant Queue! It's an amazing feature on the LG BD! Press Buttons and I kept getting results because of that I kept making mistakes a different choice of movies costs more if I watch a lot of movies (pay each time) the TV just to listen to music That's what my stereo for youtube is good fun for the times when you have a party tedious to enter a url with the remote use it i think 550 is a bargain price very happy with it stay away from 3d bd away from players and TVs. Extreme Wait at least a year for this to settle down before wasting money. Last but not least. Be sure to update the firmware! And check regularly. They fix various problems e and add new features. I updated twice within the first day of opening the box.
