I love leather and have recently started learning about leatherworking. This is a nice piece of tool leather that costs about the same as similar items at my local leather shop. This is a 12 inch x 12 inch (1 square foot) piece. This makes it good for small crafts. It can be easily used to make a wallet, sheath, keychain, hair ornament or other small items. I have this to practice different tools and techniques. Because it's 12 x 12, it's the perfect size for use in cutting machines. I've tried it on both the Cricut Explore Air2 and the Sillhouette Cameo 4 with deep-cut blades and construction paper respectively. Both machines were capable of cutting through skin, but you'll need to make sure you make multiple passes. Also, a tip for keeping your carpets clean and usable is to apply the transfer tape to the back of the leather and then stick the transfer tape to the mat, not directly to the leather. This will greatly extend the life of your carpet! After testing it on machines cutting a few pieces to the desired size, I tried my hand at carving and stamping. I was very happy with this skin for these purposes. My first try might not have been that great, but then again, it made me practice and learn. Eventually I got the hang of getting a beautiful piece that I used in part of my son's costume. He was very pleased about that. I got the expected results from this and it looks like a nice sturdy piece. One side is smooth, the other side is soft to the touch. It's prone to scratching and scuffing, but as far as I know this is common with vegetable tanned leather. It had no stains or scratches, although I would have preferred not to have tape on it as the tape's glue stuck to the skin.
