Ideal for large DIY sanding jobs

I bought this to sand as part of a DIY project. I had to remove the wallpaper, re-tape and grout the seams on the drywall, and sand them. I also wanted to sand down the freshly primed walls and first coat to get a smoother finish on the final coat. Finally, I had to sand the painted plywood floor before I primed and recoated it. This was a project that required a tool designed for large scale work. I've discussed using a handheld vacuum attachment as an alternative. More on that below. This works extremely well. Of course I went through walls, ceilings and floors without any problems compared to the hand sanding block. I attached it to the short pole segment. There is also a nozzle for manual grinding. All I can say about this is that with a short pole, wall-making becomes a "side-to-side" motion with both hands while standing a reasonable distance. I don't see the same ease of use with the manual option. I also lent it to a group of painters who did part of the house for us. They liked it too. They particularly liked the fact that it doesn't tip over compared to a conventional sanding block (rectangular). Take 220 grit and 120 grit. Use coarser paper to prepare before priming. Use thinner paper on primed and first painted walls. Warnings: This will raise a lot of dust. Wear a mask, shield the area you're creating to prevent dust from spreading to other parts of the house, and be prepared to look like you've been in a sandstorm when you're done. I see that Full Circle also has a vacuum version of this store, although it seems to be less highly rated. It's a trade-off between the upfront cost of hoping the vacuum will work versus preparing ahead of time and realizing that extensive dusting will be required. Also, be careful when removing sharp protrusions (nails or other objects) in areas before sanding. You'll break the pad, and it's expensive to replace.
