Venu SQ Review: Wearable Technology

Venus mostly. I know it's a new watch. My first smartwatch purchase after some research was the Amazfit GTS, mainly due to the fact that the battery lasted up to 14 days (usually I had 6-7). The watch was very nice with an AMOLED screen and hundreds of watch faces, but it didn't really connect to other apps. I sent it back and got the Venu SQ because I really prefer the square dial. The build of the watch is certainly inferior to my Amazfit, but it's Garmin's software, widgets and apps that make it so much more useful. I workout 2-3 times a week and like to use it for feedback and tracking, and as an added bonus, all my steps and exercises carry over to my Weight Watchers Online app for extra points! I can usually go 5 days on a single charge, which I find pretty decent. I had no trouble connecting to the GPS, if you've read about it it says it takes longer to 'learn' your location initially. I think many people's complaints about their fitness watches can be resolved with a little research; There are many settings that can be configured directly on your watch and some must be done in the Garmin Connect app. It just takes a little reading and experimenting to get everything set up the way you want, and sometimes I just google a question and find the answer! The only complaint I have with the Venu SQ is that the Garmin IQ Store doesn't really have watch faces specifically for the square watch face I found and I find many of their watch faces to be quite unrefined? This is one thing that Amazfit does 1000% compared to Garmin, which is beautiful, functional watch faces with literally endless choices. Garmin has a pretty limited selection in my opinion. I wasn't a fan of the silicone strap that came with the watch either, it was very hard and stiff so I immediately replaced it with a nice soft 20mm spare strap so it didn't really matter. In any case, I change the range quite often. Overall, I highly recommend the Garmin SQ for its affordability, functionality, battery life, and great support for Garmin apps. Feel free to try!
