Review on ๐Ÿ”‹ ProSeries Battery Charger - Schumacher DSR131 by Dan Bobbert

Revainrating 3 out of 5

In general it's decent.

I want to start by saying I was excited about the release of this model, not impressed now but it works. I'm not a fan of those cheap electronic push button chargers and this is no different from lesser known brands in that regard. The buttons have no quality, just touch them and they change. You have no way to override anything, the smart charger just isn't smart in general. A fully discharged battery will not charge, you need to charge it with another manual charger first and bring it to around 5V. Once that is achieved, this device will take it from there and desulfate it when needed, and it will work fine from there. However, for dead batteries you need a second charger to put a few volts in, because that charger completely rejects a dead battery and won't even try to jump on it with high force, so the smart charger isn't smart. It's billed as a professional series, seriously, it's not. Pros know how to charge batteries and should be able to do it with a single device. The manual says that for a completely dead battery you need to charge a slow/low charge first, which would be great if the device actually did that, rather than a full battery rejection. I had two batteries which he refused, I put them on my old trusted Schumacher charger and got them up to 7 volts and then put them on this charger to finish them off which they did and charged very well. However, if I chose to "trust" this charger, I would unnecessarily purchase two more $300 batteries. But I didn't because I knew the batteries were good and just dead after months in a cold, unheated room. I've been a Schumacher fan for years but the next Charger will be a different brand if they don't come into play. a little up. The old counting devices were/are bulletproof and do their job well. But the company has chosen to embark on a path where the electronics are smarter than the people who have been using such machines for decades. Hopefully someone I know gets the next new version so I can try it and see if it's improved. Therefore I can only give it 3 stars because it is labeled as both a professional series and a smart charger and failed miserably in both claims. For the average person who doesn't have 5-6 cars that some sit in for a while, this is good for their needs. For someone who has a fleet of vehicles and other single engine equipment, not so much.
