He not only died, he killed the flash drive

It seemed that this would be a good product capable of powering USB devices such as external drives. However, it came without instructions. I plugged the device's power adapter into an outlet, then plugged it into the hub's power port. All LEDs (one for each port) were blinking rapidly and that was the last activity I saw from the hub. . I popped the flash drive into the hub and it quickly warmed up. It smelled like electronics that were too hot. I unplugged everything and let it cool down only to find that the flash drive I was using is now dead. Somehow this block burned a flash drive. I've tried a few times to get this Sabrent hub working, but not a single computer recognized it. I was confused by the lack of instructions. Can I use the hub without an external power supply and work with low power devices like flash drives? There were no instructions to say. Anyway, it didn't work no matter how I tried to use it.
