Balls of wool get tangled

It would be useful to have a label to launch the ball. Every ball I find breaks out in two places and tangles. I spend as much time detangling as I do knitting. Other than that, since I didn't finish the quilt and didn't wash it, there are no other comments. Now that I've finished this "quilt" I want to buy it again. But how big/small is the "ball" of the courtyard? Not found! Needle size was hard to find. There are no washing instructions included. Would I buy again - not for $153. I could if there was a color other than gray. Wearing it as a scarf is nice and warm - I added a button and eyelet.
