Review on πŸ” Rybozen 4 Port VGA KVM Switch for Display Monitor Sharing with 3 USB Ports for Wireless Keyboard, Mouse, and USB Printer Connection, Independent Button Switching by Aaron Leburu

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Slightly inadequate

I needed to replace a 4 port USB/VGA KVM switch that had worn out in 15 years. Searching Revain for similar devices with normal interfaces, i.e. standard USB connectors/cables and standard VGA connectors/cables, quickly narrowed the search, leaving very few options. This item was once one of those options. For reference, my idea of a great KVM switch is the ConnectPro UR-12 dual port device. If there was a 4-port version of this KVM switch, I would buy it; but it wasn't. I was willing to pay $150 for a good quad port KVM. This Rybozen module was significantly cheaper, but that's mainly because it's a barely-performing device at best. Rybozen works mostly as advertised, but has plenty of room for improvement. The most annoying feature is that when you deselect a computer, that computer thinks it's lost its monitor, so it tries to switch to other video connections (or the built-in screen in the case of a laptop/laptop) and all your new ones rearrange icons so you might have found and fixed them when you returned to this computer. This feature is always annoying. The second most annoying feature is that the included USB cables are all the same color: it would be nice to have different colors to make it easier to route these cables to the right positions on the back of the KVM switch. Other negative points were noted by previous reviewers. Take the chunky design, for example: the VGA monitor port and USB ports for keyboard and mouse are on the front of the device, not the back. It would be better to make the device a few centimeters longer to accommodate these interfaces on the back. And the buttons are more awkward to use than they should be - too recessed. Two nice things I have to say are that the price is very attractive and my computer's video resolution is not limited by this device. Overall, I gave it a three-star rating - it mostly works (except for the non-selected VGA video ports), but that's just the shadow of a good design. However, it's much better than the StarTech SV431USB, which didn't work at all as advertised and whose tech support also dropped it (see my review of this product).
