Stereo speakers great for the price

For under $20 this speaker is great. The sound is clear, although the bass is very weak, but for the price I really can't complain. The form factor is perfect for my monitor stand and it has 2 switches on the back, one for the blue LED and the other for the speaker in general. USB cables and audio cables are hardwired; I would have preferred if they were removable but that would increase the cost. I connect both cables to my Dell UP3017 monitor which powers the speaker and sends audio through the display port and HDMI connections of 2 computers (Linux Workstation and Macbook Pro) whichever display input I choose , into the corresponding audio outputs on the 3.5mm monitor jack on these speakers. This is of course a function of the monitor, but the speaker helps me with a very simple setup that includes minimal cables, a rotary volume control and no annoying wall warts! The volume control is very handy, and the speaker can be loud enough for most purposes: meetings, watching videos, and listening to regular music if you don't have audiophile expectations. I ran a bass test and the lowest bass I could hear was 30Hz (at max volume). I also tested the stereo track and verified that the left audio is on the left and the right audio is on the right, so the two speakers inside are indeed working in the correct stereo configuration. However, since the bass is weak, I installed an equalizer on my Ubuntu Linux machine (packages: pulseeffects lsp-plugins-lv2) that helps. MacOS has eqMac/eqMac2, some good pointers here: https://github.com/nodeful/eqMac2/issues/180. Note: some reviews talk about Bluetooth, but this column does not include Bluetooth or battery, these reviews are probably talking about a different product altogether. Conclusion: The speaker is highly recommended if you want a simple, cheap USB-powered speaker that works. Not recommended if you have bass or audiophile expectations. The product is great *for less than $20*!
